The Corporate Owners Behind Award Show Sponsors

A celebration of film controlled at every layer by a small number of corporations. The broadcast network, the fashion on the red carpet, the champagne at the parties, the films being nominated, the social media platforms covering it, and the insurance paying for the celebrity eyewear. Each element traces back to one of roughly a dozen parent companies.

Disney broadcasts the Oscars and competes for them. LVMH, Kering, and Richemont dress every attendee. Mastercard, IBM, and Sony sponsor the Grammys. Award shows are not just entertainment. They are corporate ecosystems where every element is sponsored, owned, and controlled by a handful of conglomerates.

We traced the corporate owners behind award show sponsors. Every red carpet look, every champagne toast, every beauty partnership traces back to a parent company. For more on sponsorship and brand ownership, see our why conglomerates use sponsorship to keep sub-brands visible.

The Oscars: Disney's Double Role

ABC has held the Oscar broadcast rights since 1976. ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Company, which means Disney controls both the ceremony's distribution and many of the films being nominated.

Disney's film studios, including Disney Pictures, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures, are responsible for a significant share of the nominated films. This creates an unusual situation where the company broadcasting the ceremony also has a financial stake in which films win.

Disney broadcasts the show and competes in it. The dual role is unique among major award shows. No other broadcaster of a major awards ceremony has the same level of financial interest in the nominees.

For more on Disney's brand portfolio, see our what brands does Disney own complete list.

The Red Carpet: Three Luxury Conglomerates

Three luxury conglomerates dress and accessorize the attendees. Every red carpet look is a brand deployment by one of three parent companies. The celebrities are walking advertisements for European luxury groups.

LVMH (France) owns Louis Vuitton, Dior, Tiffany & Co., Givenchy, Celine, Fendi, and Bulgari. Kering (France) owns Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, and Alexander McQueen. Richemont (Switzerland) owns Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Piaget, IWC, and Montblanc.

Every dress, every suit, every piece of jewelry on the red carpet is a strategic brand deployment. The celebrities are paid to wear specific brands. The brands are owned by three parent companies. The red carpet is a marketing channel controlled by European luxury conglomerates.

For more on luxury brand ownership, see our complete guide to luxury brand ownership.

The Champagne and Spirits: LVMH, Diageo, Pernod Ricard

The champagne at Oscar parties is never independent. It is owned by one of three spirits conglomerates.

LVMH owns Moet & Chandon, Dom Perignon, Hennessy, and Veuve Clicquot. Diageo (UK) owns Johnnie Walker, Don Julio, and Tanqueray. Pernod Ricard (France) owns Absolut, Jameson, and Perrier-Jouet.

LVMH dominates. It owns both the fashion houses dressing attendees and the champagne they drink. The same parent company controls what celebrities wear and what they toast with. The vertical integration is total.

The Grammys: 15 Official Partners

The Recording Academy named 15 official partners for the 2026 Grammy Awards. Each partner traces back to a corporate parent.

Mastercard (public, NYSE: MA) is the Official Payments Partner. IBM (public, NYSE: IBM) is the Official AI and Cloud Partner. Sony Corporation (public, NYSE: SONY) is the Official Pro Audio Partner. Häagen-Dazs is owned by General Mills. PATRÓN Tequila is owned by Bacardi. Redken is owned by L'Oréal. Hilton is owned by Hilton Worldwide (public, NYSE: HLT). United Airlines is owned by United Airlines Holdings (public, NASDAQ: UAL). City National Bank is owned by Royal Bank of Canada. Dove is owned by Unilever. Vaseline is owned by Unilever. Sharpie is owned by Newell Brands. PEOPLE is owned by Dotdash Meredith (IAC). Frontera Wines is owned by Vina Concha y Toro. SiriusXM is owned by SiriusXM Holdings (public, NASDAQ: SIRI).

15 partners. 15 corporate parents. One award show.

The Disney-Grammy Deal: 2027 and Beyond

Disney Entertainment and the Recording Academy announced an unprecedented new 10-year global deal for the Grammys to be exclusively simulcast on ABC, Hulu, and Disney+ beginning in 2027. The deal makes The Walt Disney Company the first new home for Music's Biggest Night in 50 years.

In the first year of this agreement, 2027, ABC will present the Grammys, the Oscars, and Super Bowl LXI. Disney will own the broadcast rights to the Oscars, Grammys, and Super Bowl simultaneously. One corporation controlling three of America's biggest cultural events.

The 2027 Grammy Awards will air live on Sunday, February 7, from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, simulcast across ABC, Disney+, and Hulu. The Recording Academy and Disney entered into an agreement that solidifies the company as the destination for the Grammys through 2036.

The Beauty Monopoly on the Red Carpet

The makeup on the faces being photographed on the red carpet is applied by brands owned by three companies.

L'Oréal (France) owns L'Oréal Paris, Lancome, Giorgio Armani Beauty, and YSL Beauty. Estée Lauder (USA) owns MAC, Clinique, Tom Ford Beauty, and La Mer. LVMH (France) owns Dior Beauty, Givenchy Beauty, and Fendi Beauty.

L'Oréal, the world's largest beauty company, dominates red carpet makeup partnerships. The makeup applied before the cameras start is not chosen by the celebrity alone. It is chosen through brand partnerships negotiated by the parent company. For more on beauty industry consolidation, see our consolidation of beauty industry 2020-2026.

The Streaming Wars at the Oscars

The studios funding Oscar-nominated films are the same corporations streaming them into your home.

Disney+ and Hulu carry Disney films, with Searchlight for prestige and Disney+ for family. Netflix runs major Oscar campaign budgets with global originals. Apple TV+ funds prestige films, with CODA winning Best Picture in 2022. Amazon MGM Studios added Oscar pedigree through the MGM acquisition. Max carries Warner Bros. Discovery original films. Peacock carries Comcast and NBCUniversal content.

The streaming wars are also Oscar wars. The corporations funding the films competing for awards are the same corporations streaming them into your home. For more on streaming ownership, see our streaming services corporate ownership.

What This Means for Brand Ownership

Award shows are corporate ecosystems. Every sponsor, every red carpet look, every champagne toast, every beauty partnership traces back to a parent company.

Three luxury conglomerates, LVMH, Kering, and Richemont, dress and accessorize the attendees. One entertainment conglomerate, Disney, broadcasts the show and produces many nominated films. Three streaming giants, Netflix, Apple, and Amazon, increasingly fund the films competing for awards. Two social media companies, Meta and Alphabet, control where the Oscar conversation happens. One beauty company, L'Oréal, dominates red carpet beauty partnerships.

Use WhoBrands.com to trace the ownership behind every brand you see on the red carpet. For more on how sponsorship reveals hidden ownership, see our how sponsorship deals reveal hidden brand ownership.
