Apple Computer Company was founded on April 1, 1976, by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne in Cupertino, California. Wozniak designed the Apple I and Apple II computers, which established Apple as a pioneer in personal computing. The company went public in December 1980 in one of the largest IPOs in U.S. history at the time.
Apple launched the Macintosh in 1984, introducing the graphical user interface to mainstream consumers. Steve Jobs was ousted from Apple in 1985 and returned in 1997 after Apple acquired his company NeXT.
