What does Micron Technology make?
Micron designs and manufactures memory and storage semiconductors. Its main products are DRAM, including high-bandwidth memory for AI accelerators; NAND flash used in SSDs and mobile storage; and a small volume of NOR flash. These chips go into data center servers, smartphones, PCs, vehicles, and industrial systems.

When was Micron founded and by whom?
Micron was founded in October 1978 in Boise, Idaho, by engineers Ward Parkinson, Joe Parkinson, Doug Pitman, and Dennis Wilson. The company began as a semiconductor design consultancy before opening its first memory fab in 1981. Idaho potato magnate J.R. Simplot was a crucial early backer.

Sanjay Mehrotra is chairman, president, and chief executive officer, a role he has held since May 2017. He co-founded SanDisk in 1988 and served as its CEO until Western Digital acquired the company in 2016.

Does Micron still own Crucial?
Micron continues to own the Crucial brand but exited the Crucial consumer business. The company announced the exit in December 2025 to redirect memory supply to enterprise customers amid AI-driven demand, and consumer product shipments ended in February 2026. Micron continues to provide warranty service for existing Crucial products.

Micron reported a record $37.4 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2025, ended August 28, 2025, with net income of $8.5 billion.
