History of Foley Entertainment Group

Bill Foley's entry into sports ownership began with the founding of the Vegas Golden Knights, which joined the NHL as the 31st franchise in 2016. The team began play in the 2017-18 season and achieved the best expansion season in professional sports history, reaching the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural year. No expansion team in the NHL, NFL, NBA, or MLB had accomplished that feat in 50 years. The Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup in 2023, their sixth season, defeating the Florida Panthers.

Foley formed the Foley Entertainment Group in 2021 to consolidate and manage his growing portfolio of entertainment assets. In 2022, he expanded into football through the creation of Black Knight Football Club and the acquisition of AFC Bournemouth. Foley initially considered an MLS expansion team in Las Vegas but determined the cost would be approximately $1.3 billion for the expansion fee and stadium. He secured AFC Bournemouth for about 10% of that cost.

In 2024, Foley launched Auckland FC as an expansion club in New Zealand's A-League. The club won the league title in its second season, matching the Golden Knights' pattern of early success. The Vegas Knight Hawks of the Indoor Football League won the 2025 IFL championship, bringing a professional football title to Henderson, Nevada.

In 2025, Black Knight Football Club became the sole shareholder of FC Lorient, a French Ligue 1 club, bringing more than $550 million in equity. President Loic Fery retained his position and became a BKFC shareholder alongside Foley. BKFC also holds ownership stakes in Hibernian FC in Scotland and Moreirense FC in Portugal.

The Golden Knights reached their third Stanley Cup Final in 2026, sweeping the Colorado Avalanche in the conference final to advance against the Carolina Hurricanes. The franchise has only missed the playoffs once and has sold out every game at T-Mobile Arena since its 2017 launch.

The Folded Flag Foundation, founded by Foley, assists military families who lost a family member in the line of duty. The foundation provides educational assistance and support services to surviving family members.
