300 Entertainment was founded in 2012 by music industry veterans Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles, Todd Moscowitz, and Roger Gold. The company was established with a vision to create a new model for record labels that combined independent flexibility with major label resources. Cohen, who previously served as Chairman and CEO of Warner Music Group's recorded music operation, resigned from WMG to start 300 alongside his co-founders.
The company quickly established itself by signing emerging artists in hip-hop, pop, and alternative genres, leveraging its founders' extensive industry relationships and expertise. Throughout the 2010s, 300 Entertainment developed a reputation for identifying and developing successful artists while maintaining artist-friendly business practices. The label's roster grew to include top-charting artists such as Megan Thee Stallion, Young Thug, Gunna, Fetty Wap, Highly Suspect, and Mary J. Blige.
In 2015, Warner Music Group made a strategic investment in 300 Entertainment, providing the company with additional resources and distribution support while maintaining its operational independence. This partnership proved successful, leading to WMG's full acquisition of the company in December 2021.
Following the acquisition, 300 Entertainment has continued to expand its operations and artist roster. In 2024, the company's publishing division, 300 Publishing, formed a strategic partnership with Warner Chappell Music to sign and develop songwriters, bringing talents like Sean Momberger, co-producer of Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us," to the Warner Chappell roster.
