Monthly IPO Roundup: September 2026 -- August's Biggest Listings
August 2026 IPOs: Unitree raised $900M in China's first humanoid robot listing and surged 460% to a $50B valuation, Lyntris priced a $297.5M NYSE defense tech debut below range, Milky Mist and Molbio listed in India, and OpenAI reaffirmed a 2027 IPO. Full recap.

August 2026 belonged to a dancing robot. Unitree Robotics, the Hangzhou company that turned Chinese humanoid robots into a viral spectacle, raised approximately $900 million on Shanghai's STAR Market and surged 460% on its first day of trading. The stock closed at 845 yuan, valuing the company at roughly $50 billion and making it the first publicly traded humanoid robot maker in mainland China. That single listing produced the largest first-day pop of any major IPO in August.
The rest of the month was quieter and more cautious. Lyntris, a U.S. defense technology company, priced a $297.5 million NYSE offering below its marketed range and opened below its IPO price. Two Indian listings, Milky Mist Dairy and Molbio Diagnostics, both debuted at premiums. And OpenAI's CFO told employees the AI lab "will be a public company in 2027," reaffirming the most anticipated IPO pipeline in the world.
This is our September 2026 IPO roundup, covering August's activity. For July's listings, including CXMT's $8.6 billion Chinese semiconductor IPO and Jersey Mike's $1 billion NYSE debut, see Monthly IPO Roundup: August 2026. For the broader M&A picture, see Monthly M&A Roundup: August 2026, where EA's $55 billion Saudi-led buyout closed and Nvidia reportedly agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.9 billion.
Unitree: China's First Humanoid Robot IPO Surges 460% on First Day
Unitree Robotics (Shanghai STAR Market: 688836) priced its initial public offering at RMB 150.80 per share on August 6, 2026, implying a market capitalization of RMB 60.99 billion and a price-to-earnings ratio of 219.23. The company sold approximately 40.45 million new shares, about 10% of the enlarged share capital, raising roughly 6.1 billion yuan (approximately $900 million). Trading began on August 19.
The stock opened at 1,100 yuan, a 629% jump from the offer price, before settling to close at 845 yuan. That close was 460% above the IPO price and valued Unitree at approximately 341.77 billion yuan ($50.68 billion), per Global Times. At the intraday peak, the market cap reached 444.9 billion yuan ($66 billion), pushing Unitree above the valuation of U.S. robotics competitor Figure AI, which was valued at $39 billion in a September 2025 funding round, per Fortune.
Why the first-day move was so extreme: Only 7.44% of Unitree's shares were freely tradable on day one. The remaining 92.56% were locked up. The opening price therefore reflects a very small pool of investors, not a broad market consensus. Retail investors oversubscribed the offering by more than 8,000 times, a record for the STAR Market, and the final lottery winning rate was just 0.0181%. The online subscription drew 9.78 million investors. Strategic placements, accounting for 20% of the offering, were taken by the social security fund, Tencent, and DeepSeek.
The DeepSeek connection: DeepSeek took a RMB 141 million strategic placement with an unusual 36-month lock-up, alongside an R&D pact pairing its AI models with Unitree's robot hardware. That tie-up matters because it links China's leading open-source AI lab to its leading humanoid robot maker inside a single public-market structure.
What Unitree is: Founded in 2016 by Wang Xingxing in Hangzhou, Unitree makes quadruped and humanoid robots and is the world's biggest humanoid robot maker by some measures. The company is profitable, though Reuters notes few of its robots are used in commercial environments yet. Founder Wang Xingxing, 36, continues to own around a fifth of the company, and the debut catapulted his personal wealth to more than $11 billion on paper, per The Business Times. Future robot models are cut off from the U.S. market due to export controls.
Why it matters for brand and industry ownership: Unitree is the first public pricing anchor for the embodied AI sector. Analysts expect the IPO to set a precedent for valuations of other robotics company stock offerings. The listing also validates China's "hard-tech" capital-markets route, which fast-tracked Unitree's application through the Shanghai exchange's listing committee in just 73 days after acceptance.
Lyntris: $297.5 Million NYSE Defense Tech IPO Prices Below Range
Lyntris Inc. (NYSE: LYNX) priced its initial public offering on August 18, 2026 at $17.50 per share, below the marketed range of $19.00 to $22.00. The company sold 17,000,000 shares, raising approximately $297.5 million in gross proceeds. Trading began on August 19 under the ticker LYNX, and the offering closed on August 20.
The deal is a mix of primary and secondary shares. Lyntris sold 5,714,286 shares, while existing stockholders, including private equity firm Trive Capital, sold 11,285,714 shares. Underwriters received a 30-day option for up to 2,550,000 additional shares. Net proceeds to Lyntris were approximately $69.5 million, which the company plans to use together with existing cash to repay about $60.0 million of outstanding indebtedness.
A rough debut: Lyntris opened at $15.50 on August 19, below the $17.50 IPO price. That is an unusual and unwelcome signal for a newly listed stock. The defense technology company delivers what it calls "sense-to-act" connectivity solutions for the modern connected battlespace. Evercore ISI, Citigroup, and Guggenheim Securities led the deal.
The pricing below range and the open below offer price suggest cautious investor appetite for defense tech at this valuation, even as defense spending stays elevated. For how the listing process works and why IPOs price above or below their ranges, see our guide on how companies get listed on a stock exchange.
Milky Mist Dairy: Rs 1,553 Crore Indian Dairy IPO Lists at Premium
Milky Mist Dairy Food Limited began trading on the BSE and NSE on August 18, 2026. The company priced its Rs 1,553 crore (approximately $185 million) IPO at Rs 140 per share, the upper end of its Rs 133 to Rs 140 range. The offering comprised a fresh issue of Rs 1,428 crore and an offer for sale of Rs 125 crore.
The IPO was oversubscribed 56.12 times overall. Qualified institutional buyers bid 155.83 times, non-institutional investors 34.91 times, and retail investors 8.41 times. Before the public issue, the company raised Rs 465.29 crore from 19 anchor investors at the top price band. The stock listed at approximately Rs 158, a 12.86% to 14% premium over the IPO price.
Use of proceeds: Approximately Rs 496.86 crore for debt repayment, Rs 469.24 crore for a Perundurai facility capex, and Rs 155.31 crore for cold-chain equipment. Milky Mist is a dairy products company, and the listing adds a branded consumer food name to India's public markets at a time when U.S. consumer IPOs remain scarce.
Molbio Diagnostics: Rs 939.70 Crore IPO Lists at 21% Premium
Molbio Diagnostics made its stock market debut on the BSE and NSE on August 18, 2026, listing at Rs 980 per share, a 21.44% premium over its IPO price of Rs 807. The Rs 939.70 crore (approximately $112 million) IPO was subscribed 70.26 times overall, led by qualified institutional buyers at 186.39 times.
The offering comprised a fresh issue of 25 lakh shares worth Rs 200 crore and an offer for sale of 92 lakh shares valued at Rs 739.70 crore. Ahead of the IPO, Molbio raised Rs 281.5 crore from 33 anchor investors at Rs 807 per share, the upper end of the band. The company is backed by Temasek and Motilal Oswal Private Equity.
What Molbio does: The company is a diagnostics firm that plans to use IPO proceeds to expand its R&D and manufacturing infrastructure and strengthen its diagnostics capabilities. The strong debut surpassed grey market expectations, which had indicated a listing premium of around 15%.

OpenAI Reaffirms 2027 IPO Plans
The biggest IPO news of August may be a listing that did not happen. OpenAI CFO Sara Friar told employees at an all-hands meeting that the AI lab "will be a public company in 2027," CNBC reported on August 19. Friar told employees not to worry about rival Anthropic's IPO timeline and framed the listing as a milestone rather than a finish line.
"The IPO is not a finish line, it is a milestone, another fundraise," Friar said, according to two sources familiar with her comments. "We raised $122B in March, and that gives us flexibility."
OpenAI confidentially filed its IPO prospectus with regulators in June 2026 but has not publicly disclosed its plans or pricing timeline. The March 2026 funding round valued the company at approximately $122 billion. A 2027 listing would likely be the most watched public offering since SpaceX's record $75 billion IPO in June 2026. For background on how a confidential S-1 filing works and what it signals about timing, see our stock market guide for brand and consumer enthusiasts.
What to Watch: The Remaining 2026 IPO Pipeline
Discord -- The gaming and community communication platform remains the most watched consumer-facing IPO for H2 2026. Per Danelfin's IPO tracker, Discord is targeting H2 2026 at a valuation of $15 to $25 billion on Nasdaq. No official pricing date has been confirmed as of August 31. Discord has 200 million monthly active users and a Nitro subscription model.
Databricks -- The AI and data platform company, most recently valued at $134 billion in a private round, is working with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley on a potential Q3 or Q4 2026 listing. If it prices near its private valuation, it would be the largest technology IPO of 2026 after SpaceX.
Bending Spoons -- The Italian company that owns AOL, Evernote, Vimeo, WeTransfer, Eventbrite, and Meetup filed for a Nasdaq IPO in June targeting a $20 billion valuation. A Q3 2026 listing is possible. See our Bending Spoons company profile.
Plaid -- The financial data connectivity company filed its S-1 in Q1 2026 with Goldman Sachs as lead underwriter at a $6.1 billion valuation target. No pricing date has been set as of August 31.
Yangtze Memory Technologies -- Following CXMT's successful July debut, Yangtze Memory (China's leading NAND flash maker) may file for its own IPO as soon as late 2026, per people familiar with the matter.

Retail investors oversubscribed the offering by more than 8,000 times, a STAR Market record, and the lottery winning rate was just 0.0181%.
