The EEOC filed a lawsuit in April 2024 alleging that Sheetz's criminal background screening process disproportionately screened out Black, Native American, and multiracial applicants. In June 2025, the EEOC moved to dismiss the case, citing a Trump administration executive order on disparate impact liability. A former Sheetz employee filed a motion to intervene and pursue his own class action lawsuit.
