History of MotionVFX sp. z o.o.
Szymon Masiak founded MotionVFX in 2009 in Bielsko-Biala, a town in southern Poland. He had previously worked as a 3D digital effects designer on Hollywood productions including Sin City and Pan's Labyrinth, and on returning to Poland he recognized that video editors lacked ready-made professional templates and effects.
He began producing video templates as a solo operation, gradually expanding into plugins and extensions for Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve. The product line grew around an m-prefixed naming system that produced recognizable packs such as mInfographic for data graphics, mTransition for transitions, and mFilmLook for color grading, alongside tools including mO2 for 3D models inside FCP and the Design Studio extension.
In December 2020 the company changed ownership. Masiak sold a majority stake to a group of more than twenty private and institutional investors from the US, Germany, France, Poland, and Spain, remaining the largest individual shareholder while stepping back from daily operations. Andrzej Basiukiewicz and Wojciech Korpal came in as co-CEOs to run growth, and the company relocated its base to Warsaw.
Apple announced its acquisition of MotionVFX in March 2026. The deal followed Apple's January 2026 launch of the Creator Studio subscription, and industry coverage read the purchase as Apple buying ready-made Final Cut Pro content and technology, including AI-powered rotoscoping, 3D tracking, surface tracking, and video upscaling, to strengthen the subscription against Adobe Creative Cloud.
Controversy, Regulation & Public Scrutiny
The company's public record is clean at the regulatory level. Its controversies are community-facing: the 2020 investor takeover and leadership change drew user questions about direction, and the 2026 Apple acquisition immediately raised concerns among DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro users about whether cross-platform development would continue.
Pricing transitions between perpetual licenses and subscription models across the catalog produced periodic customer complaints, a familiar creative-software friction. No recalls, lawsuits, or enforcement actions of significance are on record.
