Alex Pasykov founded Taimi in 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada, under the corporate entity Social Impact, Inc. Pasykov originally conceived the app under the name "Tame Me," a name that evolved into Taimi before launch. Pasykov has described himself as an ally of the LGBTQ+ community and has positioned the company's mission around creating a safe, inclusive platform for queer users while actively partnering with organizations that advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.
The platform launched initially with a focus on gay male users, consistent with the market entry strategy of many LGBTQ+ apps that begin with the largest and most commercially established segment of the queer community before expanding. Over subsequent years, Taimi broadened its scope to serve the full LGBTQ+ spectrum, completing this transition to full inclusivity by 2022.
In November 2020, Taimi underwent a significant redesign, introducing a new interface, branding, and logo. The redesign reflected the company's evolution from a narrower gay dating app into a broader LGBTQ+ social platform and signaled its ambition to compete with mainstream social networking applications as well as niche dating apps.
Throughout 2021 and 2022, Taimi expanded its geographic reach, growing its user base across North America, Europe, and other international markets. The platform's growth was supported by its positioning as a comprehensive community platform rather than a single-purpose dating tool, which encouraged higher engagement and longer session times than typical dating applications.
In 2023, Taimi collaborated with the Known Agency on an "America the Beautiful" campaign that highlighted anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in several U.S. states and countered it with messaging about American values of freedom and equality. The campaign was nominated for The Drum Awards in the "OOH For Good" category and received the ANA Multicultural Excellence Award. Taimi also partnered with Rakuten Viber to create an educational bot focused on LGBTQ+ topics for Viber's user base.
In spring 2024, Taimi launched Queer Paradise, a series of live events in Southern California designed to celebrate diversity, sexual exploration, and dating fluidity across the full LGBTQ+ spectrum. The events were produced in partnership with Hawtmess Productions, Eden Entertainment Group, and several other LGBTQ+ event organizers.
In summer 2024, with support from GLAAD, Taimi updated its platform's self-expression tools to better serve non-binary and gender-diverse users. The updates included the ability to select multiple sexualities, a unified sexuality list across all genders, additional pronoun options, and an expanded subcategory system for non-binary users. Taimi also partnered with gender-affirming underwear brand Urbody to release a capsule collection focused on gender inclusivity and sexual fluidity.
As of early 2025, Taimi continues to operate as an independent private company, having maintained its independence from acquisition by larger dating conglomerates such as Match Group or Bumble Inc.
