History of Escola Eleva

  • Founded: 2017
  • Founders: Escola Eleva (original founding)
  • Acquired by Inspired Education Group: 2022

Escola Eleva was founded in 2017 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The school was established as a premium private school offering bilingual education in Portuguese and English, with a focus on academic excellence and international curriculum standards. The founding team aimed to create a school that combined Brazilian educational requirements with international best practices.

The school group expanded through the acquisition and integration of existing Brazilian private schools. The Gurilandia and Batutinhas brands were early learning and primary school brands that were brought under the Escola Eleva umbrella. The Leonardo da Vinci brand served primary and secondary education segments.

In May 2022, Inspired Education Group acquired Escola Eleva Global Schools. The acquisition included all 9 schools operating under the Escola Eleva group brands. At the time of acquisition, the schools educated over 7,000 students. The acquisition was part of Inspired's broader strategy to expand into Latin American markets.

Following the acquisition, Escola Eleva schools were integrated into Inspired's global network. This integration included adoption of Inspired's educational framework, teacher training programs, and global exchange opportunities for students. The schools maintained their Brazilian identity and bilingual curriculum while gaining access to Inspired's international resources.

As of 2025, Escola Eleva continues to operate 9 schools across Brazil under the Inspired Education Group umbrella. The schools serve students from early learning (age 1) through secondary education (age 18), offering bilingual education in Portuguese and English.

Escola Eleva Sustainability & Ethics

Escola Eleva's sustainability and ethics practices are tied to Inspired Education Group's corporate framework. Inspired has published sustainability commitments focused on environmental education, global citizenship, and community engagement across its school network.

For Escola Eleva, sustainability practices include environmental education in the curriculum, recycling programs on campuses, energy efficiency in school buildings, and water conservation measures. The schools integrate environmental awareness into their bilingual curriculum, teaching students about climate change, conservation, and sustainability in both Portuguese and English.

On ethical practices, Escola Eleva operates under Brazilian Ministry of Education regulations and Inspired's global child protection policies. The schools must comply with Brazilian educational standards, including teacher licensing requirements, facility safety standards, and curriculum guidelines. Inspired's global child protection policies apply across all its schools worldwide.

Community engagement programs at Escola Eleva include partnerships with local organizations, educational outreach to underserved communities, and cultural exchange programs. The schools participate in Inspired's global citizenship framework, which encourages students to engage with social and environmental issues.

As a private school charging premium tuition, Escola Eleva serves affluent families. This raises questions about educational equity and access in Brazil, where public education quality varies significantly. The schools offer scholarship programs to improve access, but the majority of students come from families who can afford premium tuition.

Escola Eleva Recalls & Controversies

Escola Eleva has not been subject to product recalls, as it is a school rather than a product manufacturer. The controversies and challenges surrounding the brand are related to the Brazilian private education market and Inspired Education Group's ownership.

Premium Pricing and Educational Inequality: Escola Eleva charges premium tuition that is accessible only to affluent Brazilian families. This raises questions about educational inequality in Brazil, where access to high-quality education is correlated with family income. While the school offers scholarship programs, the majority of students come from wealthy backgrounds. This is a structural issue in Brazilian private education, not specific to Escola Eleva.

Integration with Inspired Education Group: Following the 2022 acquisition, Escola Eleva faced integration challenges related to aligning with Inspired's global systems, curriculum standards, and operational procedures. Some parents and staff expressed concerns about changes in school culture and educational approach following the acquisition. Integration of acquired schools into a global network is a common challenge in the private education sector.

Regulatory Compliance: Escola Eleva must comply with Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) regulations, including curriculum standards, teacher licensing, and facility requirements. Brazilian educational regulations are complex and vary by state and municipality. Compliance requires ongoing attention to regulatory changes at the federal, state, and local levels.

Economic Sensitivity: Premium private school enrollment in Brazil is sensitive to economic conditions. Economic downturns, such as the recession Brazil experienced in 2015 to 2016 and the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, can affect families' ability to pay premium tuition. Escola Eleva's enrollment and revenue are exposed to Brazilian economic cycles.

Teacher Recruitment and Retention: Escola Eleva faces challenges in recruiting and retaining qualified bilingual teachers who can teach in both Portuguese and English. Brazil has a limited pool of teachers with strong English proficiency and international teaching experience. Inspired's global teacher recruitment network helps address this challenge, but competition for qualified teachers remains intense in the Brazilian premium education market.

Inspired Education Group Corporate Controversies: Inspired Education Group has faced some controversies at the corporate level, including criticism of its acquisition-driven growth strategy and concerns about the impact of private equity ownership on educational quality. These controversies do not directly involve Escola Eleva but can affect perception of the brand.
