History of Cambridge College Lima

  • Founded: 1984
  • Founders: Donald Jones
  • Acquired by Inspired Education Group: 2017

Cambridge College Lima was founded in 1984 by Donald Jones, a British educator who saw demand for a premium British-Peruvian school in Lima. The school opened with a focus on bilingual Spanish-English education and a curriculum aligned with Cambridge Assessment International Education standards. Jones positioned the school to serve both expatriate families and local Peruvian families seeking international education for their children.

In its first decade, the school established itself as one of Lima's leading international schools. Enrollment grew steadily. The school added grade levels year by year until it covered the full K-12 range, from ages 4 to 18. Jones invested in campus facilities, including classrooms, sports fields, and arts spaces, building a campus that would eventually span approximately 48,000 square meters in the Chorrillos district of Lima.

By the late 1990s, Cambridge College Lima had earned recognition from international accreditation bodies. The school became authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, giving students a pathway to universities worldwide. The school also maintained its Cambridge curriculum alignment, allowing students to take IGCSE examinations.

The 2000s brought continued growth. The school expanded its facilities to include an Olympic-grade sports complex and professional art studios. Enrollment surpassed 1,000 students. The school's graduates began securing placements at universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries, building a track record of academic outcomes that attracted new families.

A major change came in March 2017. Inspired Education Group, then operating 26 schools across Europe, Australia, Africa, and Latin America, signed an agreement to acquire Cambridge College Lima. The acquisition was announced as a welcoming of Cambridge into Inspired's family of schools. Jones worked with Inspired during the transition to ensure continuity. The deal expanded Inspired's network to 27 schools serving over 16,000 students at the time.

Under Inspired ownership, Cambridge College Lima gained access to global resources. Students could participate in international exchanges, summer camps, and inter-school tournaments across Inspired's network. The school adopted Inspired's Three Pillars philosophy: academic excellence, performing and creative arts, and sports. Professional development for teachers was standardized through Inspired's training programs.

Between 2017 and 2025, Inspired itself grew enormously. The group expanded from 27 schools to over 125 schools across 30 countries, educating more than 95,000 students. Major acquisitions included ACG Schools in New Zealand, Indonesia, and Vietnam in 2019, the Alpha Plus Group in the United Kingdom in 2022, and the British Council School in Madrid in 2025. Inspired also entered new markets, including Canada through a partnership with Newton's Grove School in Mississauga in November 2025.

As of 2025, Cambridge College Lima continues to operate as a premium international school within Inspired's network. The school serves students aged 2 to 18 and maintains its bilingual curriculum, IB Diploma Programme, and Cambridge assessment alignment. Its campus in Chorrillos remains one of the most comprehensive educational facilities in Peru.

Cambridge College Lima Sustainability & Ethics

As a school, Cambridge College Lima's sustainability profile differs from consumer goods brands. The school does not hold certifications like cruelty-free, vegan, or organic. Its sustainability efforts center on campus environmental management and educational practices.

The school's 48,000-square-meter campus includes green spaces and environmental management systems. Waste management programs, water conservation measures, and energy-efficient systems are implemented across the campus. The Olympic-grade sports complex and professional art studios were designed with environmental considerations.

As part of Inspired Education Group, Cambridge College Lima participates in Inspired's global sustainability initiatives. Inspired committed EUR 30 million in 2026 to expand its global scholarship program, the Nsouli Scholars Programme, which received 1,428 applications from 95 nationalities in 2026. This program provides up to 500 scholarships annually across Inspired's network for students whose families require financial support.

No independently verified sustainability certifications (such as B Corp status, carbon-neutral certification, or similar) are documented for Cambridge College Lima or Inspired Education Group. The school's sustainability claims are based on its own reporting and Inspired's corporate communications rather than third-party certification.

Awards & Recognition

Cambridge College Lima has built recognition over its 40-year history as one of Lima's established international schools. The school's IB Diploma Programme has prepared students for admission to universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries, including Ivy League and Russell Group institutions.

The school is a member of several international education organizations, including the International Baccalaureate Organization, Cambridge Assessment International Education, and the Council of International Schools. These memberships require ongoing compliance with academic and operational standards.

Cambridge College Lima's students have achieved results in regional, national, and international sports and arts competitions, supported by the school's Olympic-grade sports complex and professional art studios. Specific award titles and years are not extensively documented in publicly available sources.

The school's acquisition by Inspired Education Group in 2017 brought additional recognition through association with Inspired's global brand. Inspired is frequently cited in international education media as one of the world's largest premium school networks.

Cambridge College Lima Recalls & Controversies

Cambridge College Lima has no documented product recalls, regulatory actions, or major public controversies in its 40-year operating history. As a school, it does not manufacture products subject to consumer safety regulations.

The 2017 ownership transition from Donald Jones to Inspired Education Group represented a significant change in the school's governance. The transition required adjustments in management structure and curriculum integration. No public disputes or legal challenges related to the acquisition have been documented.

As an international school operating in Peru, Cambridge College Lima must comply with Peruvian educational regulations and international accreditation standards. No documented regulatory violations or compliance issues are on public record.

In 2025, Inspired Education Group faced a high-profile investigation at its Reddam House schools in South Africa, which led to the resignation of the executive head amid allegations of misconduct and financial issues. This matter did not involve Cambridge College Lima and was confined to the South African schools.
