The malware could download malicious files in the background and sign users up for paid subscriptions without consent. Google temporarily removed CamScanner from the Play Store. The app had over 100 million downloads at the time.

INTSIG responded by removing the malicious advertising library and resubmitting a clean version to Google Play. The app was restored, but the incident damaged user trust. Security researchers noted that the malware came from a third-party integration, not from INTSIG's own code. Still, the episode raised questions about supply chain security in mobile applications.

After the 2019 incident, CamScanner continued to grow. The app added AI-powered features including image enhancement, automatic text recognition, and document translation. By 2023, CamScanner had surpassed 500 million total downloads across all platforms. The app maintained high ratings on both Google Play and the Apple App Store despite the earlier security incident.
