Aura is a privately held consumer cybersecurity company headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts. Founded by CEO Hari Ravichandran, it began as iSubscribed in 2017, rebranded to Aura in 2019 after merging with Identity Guard owner Intersections, and has raised roughly $790 million in venture funding at a 2021 valuation of $2.5 billion. In 2024 Aura spun off its multi-brand security business as Pango Group, later renamed Point Wild, and in 2026 acquired Australian family safety company Qoria.

Aura exists because its founder got defrauded. Hari Ravichandran, who had built Endurance International Group into a publicly traded web hosting company, discovered his identity had been used in credit fraud around 2014 and found existing protection products fragmented and dated. He started iSubscribed in 2017 to build a unified consumer safety product.
The formation strategy was acquisition-led from day one. iSubscribed, backed by WndrCo and General Catalyst, acquired Intersections Inc. in a 2018 to 2019 take-private that brought Identity Guard, an established identity monitoring brand, plus its subscriber base. Intrusta, an antivirus product iSubscribed had built, was folded in. The combined company rebranded as Aura in 2019.
Venture funding scaled quickly: a 150 million dollar Series E and then a 200 million dollar Series F in October 2021 at a $2.5 billion post-money valuation, bringing total funding to about $650 million at that point. The growth model leaned heavily on partnerships and aggressive direct marketing, making Aura one of the most advertised consumer security products on US television, podcasts, and YouTube sponsorships.
The company rolled more brands under the umbrella, including Pango's portfolio of VPN and security apps, before deciding the multi-brand and flagship strategies worked better apart. The 2024 spin-off created Pango Group, which merged with Total Security (TotalAV) and rebranded as Point Wild, serving more than 25 million users, while Aura focused on its single integrated app.
In 2025 Aura raised a 140 million dollar Series G and launched balance and wellbeing features, extending the product from fraud protection toward broader family digital wellness. The 2026 acquisition of Qoria added school-focused safety platforms including Qustodio parental controls and Linewize, used in thousands of schools, making Aura one of the largest family digital safety companies.
What does Aura own?
Aura owns the flagship Aura app, the Aura for business benefits channel, and through its 2026 Qoria acquisition the Qustodio, Linewize, and Family Zone family safety products. Its former multi-brand security portfolio separated into Point Wild in 2024.
Is Aura publicly traded?
No. Aura is privately held. It was last valued at $2.5 billion in an October 2021 round and raised a further $140 million Series G in 2025.
Who founded Aura?
Hari Ravichandran founded the company as iSubscribed in 2017 after personally experiencing identity theft. He remains CEO.
Where is Aura headquartered?
Burlington, Massachusetts, in the greater Boston area, with the Qoria acquisition adding Australian and international operations.
How many brands does Aura own?
Post-spin-off the portfolio centers on the flagship app plus the Qoria brands: Qustodio, Linewize, and Family Zone, four principal properties.
Who owns Aura?
Founder Hari Ravichandran controls the company with major venture investors including Warburg Pincus, General Catalyst, and WndrCo, whose Sujay Jaswa is founding chairman.
What is Aura's revenue?
Aura does not publish financials. The company cites millions of protected members but discloses no audited revenue figure.
Two matters stand on the record. In 2021 the SEC charged Ravichandran's prior company, Endurance International Group, with overstating subscriber counts while he sold shares; Endurance paid $8 million to settle and Ravichandran personally paid $1.38 million, neither admitting wrongdoing. It is a matter tied to the founder's history rather than Aura's operations.
Category-level criticism applies to the product itself: identity monitoring services are frequently faulted for alerting users to risks they cannot fully prevent, and consumer advocates note that many protections overlap with free tools like credit freezes. Like all data-intensive security services, Aura's custody of sensitive personal information makes its own security posture a legitimate scrutiny point, though no breach of Aura's systems is on record.
No direct competitors found in the same category. This could be because Auraoperates in a unique market segment or we're still building our competitor database.
