History of Hangzhou Unitree Technology Co., Ltd.
Wang Xingxing founded the company on August 26, 2016, in a small office in Hangzhou's Binjiang District. A 1990-born engineer from Ningbo, he built the XDog quadruped for his master's thesis at Shanghai University before a brief stint at DJI and then starting Unitree.
The company launched quadruped product lines Go, A, and B through the late 2010s, building a consumer and research market. Investors including HongShan, Matrix Partners, and Shunwei Capital funded growth, joined by strategic money from Tencent, Meituan, Alibaba, Ant Group, and DeepSeek.
The pivot to humanoids came in 2024. The H1 and G1 robots put Unitree in the center of the embodied AI conversation, and the R1's roughly $5,900 price point democratized humanoid access for researchers and developers.
IPO preparation began with tutoring by CITIC Securities in 2025. The Shanghai Stock Exchange accepted the application in March 2026, and the STAR Market listing on August 20, 2026 raised approximately 6.1 billion yuan, about $910 million. Shares surged nearly 500% on debut, one of the largest first-day gains on the board.
