History of Trove

  • Founded: 2001
  • Founders: Trove FS, LLC (internal development)

The Trove brand is recent, but the firm's lineage reaches back to 2001, when JDJ Family Office Services was founded to provide outsourced family office administration to wealthy families. Martin DeCruze, an accounting firm serving similar clients, was also founded in 2001. Both became part of the later consolidation.

The modern corporate entity traces to 2020, when the founders of Maestro set out to build a contemporary family office focused on helping clients manage sprawling financial lives. Maestro's model was to combine the capabilities of a single family office into a firm that served multiple families, delivering infrastructure and coordination without the cost of each family building its own.

Through the early 2020s the firm consolidated. Maestro acquired two multi-family office companies, JDJ Family Office Services and Cornerstone Family Office, the latter founded in 2013, along with the Martin DeCruze accounting firm. Each brought decades of family office experience and an existing client base into the combined operation.

In late 2023 the combined firm rebranded as Trove, unifying the acquired businesses under a single name and identity. The rebrand presented the firm as a modern, fee-only alternative to both building a private single family office and using advisor-affiliated multi-family offices tied to product sales.

The firm operates under CEO Amjed Saffarini with offices in Stamford, Salt Lake City, Boston, Bryn Mawr, and New York. Its scale in the multi-family office category was recognized in 2026 with a High Commendation for Best Multi-Family Office over $25 billion at the Private Asset Management Awards and a shortlisting for best Multi-Family Office above $30 billion AUM/AUA at the Family Wealth Report Awards.

Trove Ownership: Pros & Cons

Advantages

  • +Independent ownership removes pressure to sell affiliated financial products
  • +Fee-only structure aligns the firm's revenue with client service rather than product distribution
  • +Consolidated acquisitions brought experienced teams and client bases under one firm
  • +Multi-family office model delivers single family office service at shared cost
  • +Strong industry recognition supports credibility with prospective families

Considerations

  • -Private structure means limited public financial disclosure
  • -Depends on retaining ultra-high-net-worth clients, where relationships are personal
  • -Faces well-capitalized competition from bank and wirehouse family office arms
  • -Growth has relied on acquisition integration, which carries execution risk
  • -Narrow US focus limits diversification across markets
