Bausch Health's branded azathioprine tablet (75 mg and 100 mg strengths), distributed by Salix Pharmaceuticals (a division of Bausch Health US, LLC) and manufactured by Alcami Corporation, indicated for renal transplant rejection prevention and severe rheumatoid arthritis, based on the immunosuppressant azathioprine originally developed by Nobel laureate Gertrude Elion at Burroughs Wellcome in the 1950s.

Pfizer's oral JAK inhibitor (tofacitinib), FDA approved November 6, 2012, as the first JAK inhibitor approved in the United States, indicated for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ulcerative colitis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, subject to a strengthened black box warning in September 2021 following the ORAL Surveillance trial showing increased risks of serious cardiovascular events, cancer, blood clots, and death compared to TNF inhibitors.
